Interested in buying gears from a guy but...
Ok. So I am going to put 35's on my truck next spring, or sometime in late winter. There is a guy over on Pavementsucks that is selling 4:10 gears with the carriers for $75. He lives in Illinois so the shipping won't be to bad. But what are your guys' thoughts? He says they have roughly 30k miles on them. He's a good s*** so its not like he is a bad guy yanking my leg.
I know I would like to have 4:56 but damn it will be $1k just to get the gears, and money is the key right now. Just want some thoughts... thanks.

are you going to do the install/setup yourself ?
what is he selling for $75. rear R&P only, or both front/rear R&P?
the cost new is about $300 per R&P, so the cost new is either $300 or $600
which is it?
if you're doing the install, you could take a chance.
if you're paying someone else to do it, you should talk to them about using used gears. they will likely warranty the work, but not the parts. so if you have a problem, you can bet he'll tell you its the used gears, whether it is or not.
if your're paying someone else and its costing $1000 or more in labor, plus master install kits (bearings), do you want to take a chance or not.
if its only $75 for the front and rear, its worth a shot - your mechanic can inspect them before install and tell you whether they're any good or not.
if the guy is selling only one axle onlye for $75, i wouldn't bother.

$75 for both front and rear. Probably have a friend of my Brother that owns his own shop do it. This mechanic is a good guy, and the guy selling them as i said is a good guy, plenty of knowledge. I've talked to some mechanics already and they were like hell for $75 go for it.
I would presume 4:10's and 35's would be like 3:55's with my 33's? At least that's what I've always been told. Towing with my 3:55's and my 33x12.5's is good. so i would presume 4:10's and 35's would be decent.
Guys keep the thoughts coming, really appreciate it!
