Question Gibson Super Truck exhaust

Does anyone have any information on the Gibson Super Truck cat-back dual exhaust system that exits in front of passenger side rear wheels? I have a flow master super 40 exhaust now and it has seen better days. I am looking to replace it in the near future and came across the Gibson. I like the idea of the side exiting exhaust. Any information for or against it would be greatly appreciated. Like how does it sound, is it a good fit for 5.9L, or any other things that might be helpful or if you have the suggestions that don't require modifications or removal of the spare tire. Thanks in advance.

If you're going for top end (at the expense of bottom end and the lower mid-range), like it loud, and don't work the truck (towing or loading the bed heavily) the Gibson Super Truck is a darn fine cat-back according to those I've spoken to who've got 'em. If you're going to work the truck, it's not a good choice and you'd be better off with something less aggressive. I'm happy with their Swept Side, which isn't loud but makes good low- to mid-range power.

I talked to a guy a few weeks ago who said he's going to yank the Super Truck off of his 2nd gen 5.9l because he's got trouble moving his big camp trailer with it, but will miss them when he's running unladen and sporting it up.

I plan on doing some towing. Popup camper or something similar. I like the sound of my flowmaster super 40 and would like something just as loud or louder but down want to loose the performance I have now.

If it's a small popup you can probably get by with just about anything, but if you're going to pull heavier things you probably want to consider low- to mid-range performance to be more important than top-end or noise. In my entirely too arrogant opinion, that is.

I have to agree with you there. I don't want to loose the ability to tow whatever might come around. I love the deep growl of the Flowmaster. I guess I could try to find something like it but doesn't rob my low end power. Who makes your exhaust and what is the sound like. I know you said it isn't loud.

Have a local shop redo your exhaust. They will bend the tubing and exit it where ever you want.

I just had my local shop do the exhaust on my '96 from the cat back with a knock off Flowmaster muffler and stainless tips for $250. I can feel a pretty good difference in the low end.

I thought about having a guy at work make me a custom exhaust out of mandrel bends and a Flowmaster Super 44 and have them side exit before the rear passenger side tire.

With doing in local, you could probably even get stainless steel exhaust tubing done for about the same as a Gibson kit.

No shops around here do mandrel bends only press bends. I'll ask my buddy if he will do it for me. He makes street rods so he should be able to weld me something up. What's is the biggest diameter pipe should I use? I think I have 2.5" right now.

2.5" if you want to keep your low end. The factory pipe is 2.5" (at least it was on my truck)
