Default High RPMs temporarily turns off A/C fan

Hello,
I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. When I am driving at highway speeds and my engine hits a certain threshold the A/C temporarily disables and I can hear a vent popping closed. After the RPMs return back to where they were previously the vents open back up. Is this a common problem? And if so is there a solution?
Thank you very much.
