Last year, I bought a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 4X4. After the first month, I noticed there seemed to be a slight coolant leak. First, I performed a general visual inspection and could not find any leak. Then, I used a pressure tester and tested the cap and coolant system. No leak showed up during either test. Yesterday, aftering performing a post-mudding inspection of my truck, I noticed there was green stuff located on the front side of the engine block. I immediately figured that it was coolant and assumed that was the general location of the leak. After doing some diagnostic tests, I believe the water pump/pulley is the leak suspect. There is no white smoke coming out the exhaust and the oil does not appear to be contaminated with coolant, so I don't think it is a blown head gasket in this case.

Any ideas?

 

Chances are that if it's in the area you'd expect to find it if it were weeping out of the relief vent ("weep hole") or past the seal of the water pump, the water pump needs to go away.

If you want to go nuts you can wipe the whole thing down and check again later, but were it mine to do there'd be a new water pump on there tomorrow.

 

water pump is a normal wear out item. clean it all up, then drive it to reach normal temp throughout - then park it in a clean spot and let it sit for about 15 minutes - then check around the water pump and pulley. since it gets a little hotter and builds up a little more pressure after you shut it off, this is the best time to look for a drip or puddle.
