ABS/Brake light on (FIXED)
I was driving down the highway a couple months ago and my brake light and ABS light came on. The ODB2 code was P0500 which was the Wheel speed sensor malfunction. I repaced the sensor on top of the differential and it didn't fix it. I had my friend read the ABS failure and I had code 71 RAM Checksum and 72 ROM read/write error. after a little research I figured the ABS module was bad. Had is it rebuilt 2 times and still didn't fix the problem. Module Master didnt charge me either time for the rebuild.
Now the MIL was on and I needed to get ti smogged so I had to break down and take it to the dealer. They told me everything was fine with the ABS electrical system. They called and wanted to do a diff service for $190 to check the tone ring.
Now here is the ironic part. I had the rearend rebuilt just before the problems so I called the guy up and he said to bring it down and he would check it for free. Yesterday I did just that and found that when they put the rearend back togeter they somehow knocked 3 teeth off the tone ring. He replaced it for free and holly crap, no more lights on the dash and brakes like a champ. I originally asked him if there was anything that he could have done and he didn't seem to think so.......
By the way, besides the lights on I was getting a nasty feedback through the pedal. To the point I had to disconnect the small plug from the ABS module to put it in static brake mode. When I would come to a stop I could hear a clicking in the ABS manifod (where the solonoids are) and the pedal would click and search for a place to rest. With the teeth missing the module couldn't properly process the signal and would either lighten up on the pedal or drop and almost lock up the brakes.
Tone ring it was! FYI
