heating trouble

That just means the radiator is doing it's job.

So the bottom hose doesnt get warm? Should I still flush the system?

Yo can still flush the system if you want it cant hurt. How long has it been since you had the system flushed and all new coolant added? They say about 3-4 years you should do it.

I just got the truck a few months ago so not sure when it was done last. If both hoses for the heater core get hot it should not be plugged then should it?

Bought my truck with some minor heat issues as well... Sounds similar to what you describe. I flushed the system as well as removing the hoses that go to the heater core and pushing water through them. I could not believe the stuff that came out of it, and now the heat is amazing! Definitely need to flush it out and pay some extra attention to the heater core. You will be glad you did it as it keeps getting colder.
