In my truck, when it is on face and feet, the compressor cycles on intermittently instead of engaging and staying that way like when you put it on A/C. Face/feet is just cool on a warm day and not cold like if you were to put the **** on A/C.

The HVAC coil in the ductwork is called an evaporator coil, at least on your home AC systems, with which I am a lot more familiar. In any event, it does dry the air out.

With the AC engaged and set to defrost, as others have described, this is a good thing.

You can set the temp dial to warm or hot and it should not disengage the AC compressor, so you get hot dry air.
