I learned a LONG time ago not to try to pinpoint to a leak after driving....it saved me a whole bunch of money. Running idle and investigating paid off for me...

As for Jr. Mechanik, did you pour it in your rad??? then it travels a whole lot more and I agree that it may gunk up bad. For my heater core issues I usually disconnect the hose going to the core and pour it in that hose, so that most of it stays in said core, with minimum return to the rad( and therefore not so much travelling thru the engine.)

so i definitly pin pointed the leak to the freeze plugs behind the motor in front of the trans, i wiped all six of the plugs on the outside of the motor and let the truck run and wiped my finger across all of them and the hoses and none had antifreeze a couple with oil from my leaky valve covers so it has to be the motor trans freeze plugs, ill keep updated on what i do.

Default 1998 Dakota Sport 3.9 leaking coolant between transmission and block

Just got back from overseas to the USA and pulled my pristine 98 Dakota Sport out of storage. Had to replace the water pump after a hot Texas summer.

It was still losing small amounts of coolant when checked at the radiator. No leaks were showing underneath with the cardboard test.

Today I caught it leaking after a fast drive on the highway. Pulled over for refreshments and shut it down without the usual cool down idle I have used with my 70 Hemi Challenger Convertible since new.

The leak is a bare drip from the seam between block and tranny.

Weird. I have the factory service manual, but Chrysler does not give a pic or info on the exact location of all the freeze plugs. Just the procedure to replace them. Duh.

Does anybody know for sure if my 3.9 has two freeze plugs on the back of the block between the torque converter and the block?

Years of Dodge experience ( 318, 340, 383, 440, 413, 426 Hemi) whisper to me that there are, just like most Dodge engines.

I dont want to drop the tranny needlessly.

Please let me know if you have had this problem, or have personally seen a 3.9 with the tranny off. Contact me either on the forum, or email me at: ahbrat1975@gmail.com.

Thanks
