Rear diff Questions
Hi there all, im new here. I am hoping someone can give me some help. I have a 97 ram 1500 4x4. It has a 5.2 and 3.55 gears. A little while ago I was doing reno's at the house here and was hauling some serious loads. I obviously overloaded the truck one too many times and started hearing a growling noise in the rear diff. I pulled the cover off to find some broken metal chunks in the bottom of the pot. I went to the local dealer and ordered the shim kit they said i needed. I just jacked up the truck and pulled it apart to replace the rear shims and once I got the old ones out, realized they are different. The, I guess, clutches in the rear diff have spacers with little tabs on either side. One of the ones with the tabs is broken in half, also the 2 clips that hold them all together are broken. If i put it back together, missing the one broken shim, is it ok to drive it until i can order the parts from the dealer? Also, what would be the difference if i was to simply take all the clutches out? Someone help please, I am kind of in a jam now, its saturday afternoon and no parts stores open.
