Default 1999 Dodge Ram 4x4 idles low...

I have a 99 Dodge ram 1500, 4x4 5.2 li. motor club cab. When I start it cold it idles real low then just dies. It does this often. It only ideals around 500 RPMS, and I realized usually if I feather it down to this it will stay running, so I do not believe that it is really that much of a cold start issue, but yet I never seem to have any problem after it has been started and ran for awhile, except maybe twice. Someone please help, I know this is messing up my starter because I keep having to start it, and also possibly other things from ldeling so low. I Know there is a way to set it up, would this help??

Welcome to Dodge Forum.

As far as "a way to set it up", the idle on these trucks is non-adjustable. The PCM decides what the idle speed is via the IAC (among other sensors). Its the valve control on the back of the throttle body.

My guess is you either have a problem with that IAC or the TPS (driver's side of the throttle body). I will move this to the 2nd Gen section (1994-2001 Dodge Rams), see if anyone else has some insights.

replace IAC. about 40-50 at any parts store.
it should idle around 1000 rpm cold and 600 warm.

just in case a new IAC doesn't help it, don't throw the old one away yet. keeping a spare set of known good sensors can help in future trouble shooting, especially with the idle. there are some weird interactions between the IAC and TPS that i'v never been able to figure out.
