Durability of 1500 axles
so is the 9.25 pretty stout?
The 44 is also quite strong; it's the shafts that aren't. But there are upgrades available for them that make the 44 shafts stronger than a stock 60 shaft. However, I don't know that they're available for a disconnecting dodge axle. Not sure if you can install an inboard seal and eliminate the disconnect altogether, just run a normal long shaft.
I had a 9.25 and 44 under my '80 powerwagon with a 440 and NP435. They were spooled and turning 35" mudders. Only thing I ever broke were the outer shafts on the front.
i think its a lot of money, but they're not cheap. try minton motors just as a comparison. i think they're in KY, so you could drive up there and get them. if you did swap housings, and you're paying someone else to do the setup, you could have them built up before your swap, and have a lot less downtime.
