Default Spare Tire Winch Trouble

The carrier or tube that engages the winch and reaches out under the tailgate just spun then came off in my hand when I tried to lower the spare. Apparently the cotter pin that connects the carrier to the winch rusted away. Just curious if anyone had a creative way to reconnect (even temporarily) to get the spare down. I hope cutting the spare down isn't the only way to get access and make the repair.

Thanks.
Jake

Just go to a farm store and get another pin, or stick a nail through it for an emergency case. The rod should slip right back on and line up the holes.

Thought about it, I guess you now have difficulties getting to the winch with the tire in place. You may need a skinny arm. Possibly deflate the tire to get enough clearance.
