Default What other canopies will fit?

Hello, I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 sport shortbox and I am having troubles finding a canopy that will fit. This is my first truck and am unfamiliar with canopies. My question is this...If I measure a canopy and its only 1-2 inches off (Like a 88-98 chevy shortbox, or a 04-05 Ford Shortbox) will it still work or will I be dealing with a bunch of leaks? is there any play room between canopies?

Thanks for any replies.

Most trucks the the pockets on the rails are not in similar spots (maybe out a couple of inches and this is where some of the mounting hardware goes)) so i would say just stick to buying the proper canopy for your truck don't try and fit a chevy to a dodge.

2 gen ram beds are tapered too. But not the same, or any tonneau cover company would not have to have different covers. Even if it fit, it's not going to follow the roof or pillar shape.

Thsi might be a little obvious to add, but just in case: 1500 and 2500 short beds are exactly the same, from '95-'01, so you may be able to broaden your search a little. In case you were searching for a "Ram 1500 short bed cap" or something like that, and possibly missing out on something that would fit.

If it didn't come off (or designed for) a Dodge Short box 99.999% chance it will not fit. If you call for measurements from someone selling theirs, make sure they measure the front end for width and not the tail gate end..that end will spread and they will tell you that it will fit...but it won't.

Take your time, find the one you want and one that is designed for your truck and you'll be golden. Otherwise it will be a crappy fit and you'll kick yourself for being in such a hurry.

If for some reason you can't or wont wait slightly too big is a whole lot better than being to small. IMHO

It really sucks too. Chevy and Ford guys are selling their caps like they're radioactive or something. A lot of dodge guys don't have caps and those that do are not selling them.

Edit: I checked every CL board within 3 hours of my house daily for almost 18 months before finding the top I put on my truck. The paint matches, it was the style I wanted and for a price I was willing to pay.
