Good deal on a 99 sport?
So I found a 99 ram sport with 108k miles on it on craigslist yesterday and e-mailed the person about it. They e-mailed back saying they were looking for $3600 for it. Should I be leery of this seeing as how the bluebook price is around $4500 in good condition. The truck has a5.9 in it and the guy told me the tranny had never been replaced but he just had the fluid and filter changed at 100k miles. It also was a farm truck so im guessing the trucks done its fair share of towing trailers. Its also has pretty new bfg ats on it. Body looks like its in good condition according to the pictures. Just looking to get your guys opinions on it. Anything i should look for before the common axle seal and plenum leak? If I go look at it ill probably take $3000 cash and offer that to them if I would decide to buy it.

I dont have mine anymore. Got in a little trouble with the law and started college so I needed some money for fines and books. Had to sell the truck, that was around june. Thats why Im looking for another ram.
if its 4wd, and unless the engine or transmission is about to fail, or its all beat up, its a good deal at around 3500-3600.
kbb private party is showing about 4200-4300.
test drive it pretty hard for about 15-20 miles to get the transmission good and warmed up. run some with OD on and OD off. if it doesn't shift and act perfect, then you've found why they're selling it, and its only worth $1500-2000 less.

What dvaughan said, and be sure to watch that 3-4 upshift particularly carefully. Get the truck up to around 65 with OD off, and without feathering the throttle engage the OD. If it slips on the shift, you'll be looking at at least an overdrive unit rebuild before too long. With only 8k miles since the fluid/filter change, you shouldn't see much clutch friction material on the transmission dipstick -- in fact, you should have to look very, very closely to find a fleck of it.
If all it needs is an overdrive unit rebuild, the price is still good but you'll have that adventure to contend with later.
I see what looks like a transfer case skid plate in the first photo, so if I'm not mistaken about that be sure to crawl under and yank the rear driveshaft this way and that with the transfer case in neutral to check for a broken snap ring, and take a stout flashlight so you can look for the beginnings of cracks around the case/tailshaft union. Be sure to get it into each range for a bit and be on the lookout for vibration and/or noise that shouldn't be there. If the transfer case is going/gone, the asking price is too high but your offer price is pretty close to right IF the transmission is good.
