Default Tranny Leak - What is this? (Pic)

Hi all,

I have a small tranny leak, if the truck is sitting it takes maybe 2-3 days for it to actually drip on to the ground. I would search for this, but I don't know what this part of the transmission is called. Is there a seal in that location that could be leaking? If there is a seal and anyone has instructions on how to replace that I would greatly appreciate it.

Here is the pic:

That would be the shift linkage. Don't know enough about it, other than I'm sure the must be a seal. But it is probably only replaceable from the inside.

If it's leaking from there, you'll have to pull all the linkage off and pull the old one out (it's rubber encased with metal) and install the new one. Really not that hard to do. Maybe an hour.

Cool thanks, and I probably have to take the pan off and drain the tranny before taking apart that linkage right?

Depends, the linkage for the TV and shifter come off the top. If you can remove the seal and install another then the valve body doesn't need to come out. If you can't get the seal out with the shaft in the way you will have to remove the valve body. Then it is really easy to replace that seal.

You should be able to pop the old seal out without dropping the valve body. It's fits snug so it's not tough to get out.
