Lightbulb 5.9L Engine Swap from 95 to 01.

Hi guys,

my engine had a blown head gasket. The price for the job is more than half the price of a 2001 engine that I can buy, and it have 50 000km on it. Mine is a 95 with 250 000km on it.

My question is, does the 01 engine fits in the 95 Ram 1500? Both are 5.9L.

Thanks for your help!

Tommy

Yeah, you will need to put the intake off the 95 on the 01 motor, use 95 TB, and possibly distributor.

How is a newer motor more than a head gasket replacement? The lower miles is a real plus though.

The gasket replacement here is around 550$CAD, I can have an engine for 1000$ with 50k or another for 900$CAD 125k. Oh, and I didn't said more, I said more than half the price of a new engine. Thanks for the tip !

Sorry I misread.

I almost forgot, you will need to use the flexplate off the 95 also, as 95's have the balance weight on the torque converter.

Thanks! Sounds like you 've already done this. Forgot to ask. What about the CPU? Pretty sure I need the 01. Does the connection fits ?

Nope, leave everything 95 that you can, so use the 95 comp, 95 accessories, ect. Anything with no sensors from the 01 can be used. The motors are the same, its the extras that change.

I forgot to add that you need to use 95 exhaust manifolds also so you can retain EGR. That's why you swap intakes also, among other reasons.

I did a 94-94 swap but 5.2-5.9. These early trucks are a little different and most guys on this forum don't understand them.
