Default Double Cardan Dust Boot

My truck a 1999 Ram 1500 developed a squeaking noise while in 4wd. Today I inspected all my U Joints and bearings found nothing wrong except my dust boot between the double cardan and transfer case was ripped in half and inside of the joint itself. My questions how bad is it to leave it without a dust boot? Can I buy just the boot? Anyone else have this problem? Hopefully Minnesota's snowfall can wait until I have this figured out.

Thanks for your help

I would advise getting the rebuild kit for the joint and redo it quickly. Mine had been squeeking on my offroad truck and believe it contributed to my busted transfercase housing. It's an easy fix for about $30 and eliminated the squeek.

There is a cv bearing in there. I would not run it long with the boot that way.

I would replace the whole bearing while you have it apart.

Look about half way down the page and you can find the bearing and boot.

Thanks guys I'll tear into it next weekend until then I'll refrain from using my 4wd. I'll replace the dust seal, CV ball and U joints.
