input needed on fuel pumps
Has anyone noticed their fuel pump whining before it went out?
Or misfiring when below half a tank?

At under a half tank at 70 MPH my check engine light came on and it started to run rough and lean.
Since my fuel gauge does not work I though I was running out of gas or the pump was dying.
It had started to whine the day before.
I did the key trick to pull a code of 34.
Topped off the tank and it ran fine.
Speed control Solenoid circuits is what code 34 is.
I thought it would have been a low fuel pressure maybe.
Any ideas?

P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)
It appears to be running fine now that the tank has been topped off.

yeah, that's a fuel pump issue... havent had it myself but I recall reading about it on another forum. it would bog and run like crap with anything below 1/2 a tank (that varies) and it turned out the pump was bad on most of them, 1 guy I recall had a dirty filter that he thought he could have cleaned but since it's all in the tank, not worth it... so he swapped it out.

I just got back from driving it after I cleared the codes to see if they reappeared.
It ran fine with a full tank and no check engine light after about 15 miles on the highway.
Do you have any tips on changing it?
I have heard of either pulling the bed or dropping the tank using a transmission jack.
Too bad there is not a hinged panel in the floor of the bed.
Will have to call the Dodge house to see what I can get the Mopar one for.

I would run the tank down as far as possible, then drop the tank. others have pulled the bed... seems like alot either way. I havent had the opportunity to have that much fun... lol last fuel pump that went bad on me went to the shop (no time to fix it)...
if you drop the tank, you could disconnect one of the fuel lines and add some hose to it and pump it into another car if you have one, then you wouldnt need the jack because the tank would be pretty much empty.
