Question need advice on torque converter seating

i am in the process of installing a new torque converter into my 97 ram 1500 with a 46re transmission. i put a quart of fluid in it before trying to install it. i got it on the shaft and it bottomed out and i heard and felt a loud clunk so i thought it was on...but im not so sure..it sets back at least 1/2 inch from the bell housing lip like i have heard... but something just doesn't feel right..perhaps i have it on right but im just trying to make sure before i go any further.

it turns both ways relatively easy but is it supposed to do that? i also need to know if the output shaft is supposed to turn as well when you spin the TC? as of now it isn't but if it is supposed to do so then that means i haven't successfully seated the TC correctly.

i think i am doing it right but any other helpful hints or advice would help me tons. thanks.

As long as it is sits in a half inch from the bell housing and spins freely its seated properly.

Mind the crank sensor when you mate the tranny to the block.
