lockers
What do you guy recomend for lockers. i want someing i can switch on and off. (air or electric.) someone told me i should only do it in the rear. i have no experience with these so any imput is great.
Here I'll post the pros and cons of the three different types
Pros---------------------------------------------------|Cons
Electric: Quiet, smooth operation, quiet-------------------Possible electrical shorts
Cable: durable, less maintence than others-------------Cable can become pinched?
Air: On board air! great functioning-------------------Air lines can break, and o-rings can leak
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall I prefer the Cable Operated locker, for shear simplicity of operation. Flip a small lever and its engaged, and it comes with a new diff cover thats massive!!!
The air locker is nice because you gain the use of onboard air which is always nice, but I personally dont care having air lines ran under the truck where they can become pinched, punctured, or broken.
The electric locker (though relatively new) has recived top marks from 4 Wheel Off Road, and they are really impressed with it. Everything ive heard says really smooth operation, and it engages really quiet
It's all personal preferance really, your going to have to dive in and do a little research yourself and see what you like, heres links to the big 3 producers sites

Also the reason you were told not to put a locker up front is because when the front end is locked, you will be unable to steer. When both tires turn at the same speed the truck will want to go forward and will resist turning, off-road it would be fine, but as soon as you hit pavement, your truck would be as useless as **** on a bull.
Have you considered a selectable locker in the front, and either a spool or a detroit locker in the rear?
If you want to ask me some questions you can PM me or just post in here and I'll see it eventually [8D]

Thanks, Im thinking of getting an electric because all you have to do is flip a switch. I heard some people talking about an automatic locker and they say there fine and are cheaper. personally i dont like to truct things that have a mind of there own. just wondering if you knew anything about them.
Detriots Trutrac locker is a fairly nice auto locker, they engage when power is applied to them, but when you corner it switches over to a limited slip setup.
Selectables are nice because once you flip the switch there on, no matter what you do, so you have great off-road ability and still maintain streetability.
If you want a bomb proof locker get a spool though, if you break it your doing something wrong. The only downside is your rear tires would be locked all the time, constantly turning at the same rate of speed, so your tires will chirp when you turn on pavement
