ByeBye Dodge...Hello GMC!
The warranty works wherever there is a certified mechanic to work on it...they call a 1-800 number, tell them my warranty # and wala... I have an extended warranty on the wife's Acadia also...
The HP of the Vortec 5300 is higher, but the number that really matters is torque, and they're the same.
The lighter weight of the Sierra and the reduced rotating mass of a 2wd with small tires are why it feels peppier. Although the 5.3's get pretty doggy towing. My budddy's Tahoe feels very spunky-until you load it with a small trailer. That thing couldn't hardly get out of it's own way with a 14' bumper pull laiden with my 2,800 pound Daytona.
On fuel economy, yes, the Vortec's (even the older 5.7) are better than the magnum 360. 16-18 mpg is pretty normal with the 5300. Of course, the MDS Hemi can best 20........
Good luck with your new beast. The newer Silverado/Sierra are pretty good trucks over all. But be ready for the electronics issues that have plagued newer GM's. They're hard to diagnose and expensive to fix. Window won't roll down? Don't bet on it being a switch or motor failure...................

I Just purchased 2001 4x4 360. literally mint condition in out and under . has all the bells and whistles, awesome truck. But Had I read this forum before buying it I would'nt have bought it. It's like I hold my breath every time I use it,so its not done anything to me yet but just not comfortable about it. who expects atruck with the dreaded "death flash",plenim issues, horrible trannys, vacume 4x4 that might engage or not. And other issues that everyone calls normal,if anything we should have a class action lawsuit and have dodge stand behind their trucks.
All forums are like that. I had a '98 Dodge 5.9 RCSB 4x4. Never had a problem, plenum was fine. Lifted it and had 35s and it was a beast. Only complaint was the single digit MPGs with those tires. Traded it in '02 with 68k on it (probably got rid of it just before plenum time, LOL).
Bought an '02 Z71 (and found the forums, hence the name HammerZ71). The GM truck forum guys bashed all the common GM/Chevy issues too, as bad if not worse than you read here. Over-all the truck was ok. Never had a major problem like the new '97 Ford that dropped a piston with 14k on it on me! My only issue was with a lift and 33's the 5.3 couldn't get out of it's own way, which is why I dumped it after only two years for my current '04 Hemi, which has not had a single issue (or at least one I can blame Dodge for).
From what I understand from my Ford owning buddies, if you get on the Ford Truck forums you'll come away believing that EVERY 5.4 has blown spark plugs out thru the hood and had to do anything from having the heads re-tapped to completely rebuilt and you'd think EVERY 6.0 PowerJoke has blown up before it hit 30k miles...
