Squeal comes from under hood only when temperatures are under 20 / goes away warm?

There is a shrill squealing that comes from under the hood when I start the car up in the extreme cold (under 20/25). It shrills for about 5-7 minutes, and then goes away, never to be seen again even on cold starts, unless it drops that cold again.

My guess is that its probably the bearings in one of the pulleys, and that its no big deal for now. (although its likely to get worse).

Its loud and obnoxious enough to hear inside my house though when I use the remote start.

Belts in good shape.

Question for the experts on the board - would you use a belt dressing on the serpentine belt on these trucks? In the olden days of yore, I would have suggested that to see if it stopped Arachnyd's squeak but I am not sure about modern-type belts.

I have seen on here many times not to use a belt dressing on our trucks. Plus that wouldn't help his problem since it is not belt squeal that is the problem.

I'm no expert but I don't use belt dressing on anything. If I think a belt is squealing I use a bar of soap. Just have to be damn careful not get the fingers caught in something.

it could also be the seals on your power steering pump. But it is probably your belt or idler/tensioner pulley (Both extremely cheap and easy to fix)

Thats what I was initially thinking, so I think I'll go with the idler pulley. The belt could make a similar sound, but It shouldnt be nearly as temperature sensative as a bearing. Found replacements under $20 new, so I'll swap that out and see if it fixes it!

Thanks!
