Gotta love those sneaky ditches.
I was going around a curve that goes downhill then back up on the other side of it a while back and had to stand on my brake pedal to avoid hitting the guy in front of me. There was a tow truck sideways in the curve pulling a car out of the woods and the not so bright cop was sitting on the other side of the curve down the hill a bit so coming from the other direction you wouldn't see him till you were right on top of him.
After I stopped I thought to myself that I barely had room to stop and now I was further back in the curve and I didn't want to get hit so I pulled onto the shoulder.
The shoulder was grassy and the grass was hiding a deep ditch.
As soon as I realized that my tires were going down it was too late and both passenger tires were in it and I was looking at the ground through the passenger window.
Luckily the guy in front of me was a friend of mine that happened to have my hitch in his 5.7l Durango.
I called him on his cell and told him to back up so I could throw a strap on the hitch.
A little blip of the throttle on his end and I was chirping my front tires on the pavement.
I don't think I would have that problem now a days though since my differentials aren't open any more.
