Default Can anyone give some advice?

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 v8. I recently started hearing a sort of grinding sound coming from what sounds like the engine but not sure. It only grinds when i have the truck in either drive or reverse, and when im at a complete stop. Somtimes it will continue for a second when i let my foot off the brake and begin to accelerate. Its not a continuous grinding it grinds in spirts. It sounds like metal grinding and sometimes when the grind gets loud it actually makes the truck jump and today for the first time the truck jumped hard enough to stall. It started back up and drove fine however the grinding is still there. No one seems to know what it could be. Has anyone heard of this before??

if it grinds under load then the best thing to do is have someone slowly drive the truck while one person sits under the hood trying to pinpoint the noise. You say it grinds in reverse so i would drive in reverse for the test as your hood will be up and in the way.
