Old ball joints, new ones in and there is a gap. What the hell!
Hey,
Truck is a 1999 4wd sport.
I have my old ball joints out, and the new ones in.
When i got to put the knuckle onto the ball joints there is a 1/2 inch gap between the knuckle and the bottom of the top ball joint. You can see the shaft of the ball joint.
Something, the ball joints look identical to the ones that came out, and that gap was not there previous.
I am afraid if i try to take the gap out by tightening the ball joint nuts on it's going to rip the ball joints apart.
Any ideas?

mine was the same way....not a 1/2in gap, more like a 1/6in gap...ive done alot of off roading and such, and no problems...and i had my BJ's installed by a professional garage, and theres no play in them.
Maybe thats how the aftermarkets fit?

I've seen a few people here with that problem, IIRC it's just the boots that are not big enough.(cheap Bjoints) Sheriff420 is the most recent person I can remember posting about having this problem .
The one's I posted about are on a 2wd though. and yeah, the boots are shorter than the originals so they don't go all the way to the steering knuckle or spindle or whatever it's called on a two wheeler.
