Still scratching my head on this oil pressure thing. I fired it up yesterday, and sat in the driveway to watch what happens as it changes. At cold start-up, pressure reads about 50 psi. Then, as the engine temp slowly rises to operating temp, the oil pressure slowly lowers to about 22psi. I'm glad it's not a quick drop, but still concerned that it drops at all.

Okay guys... I'm re-opening this thread, now that our tranny is good to go. Engine Oil Pressure is the next focus on the list. I need to find out what exactly the pressure should be, and at what rpms. MoneyPit says he read 6psi @ idle. That seems way to low to me.

$Pit - Which manual did you see this? What readings do you all get on your rigs? Does the pressure increase as you accelerate?

I'm gonna look into the vertical passage plug idea, as well as installing a mechanical gauge.

Where did you all install your mechanical gauge on your engine?

Those factory guages are crap. I hope you have good pressure when attaching another guage. Mine always read right at 40. maybe a little above. My sending unit starting acting up though. It kept diving down to 0, then back up. I changed it when i rebuilt my engine at 192,000 miles. After that the crazy thing read what would appear to be around 80psi according to the guage. The guage isnt linear though so i dont know what it really meant to say it was.

my current ram also does it but not as bad as what you have. how many miles on it?

55K miles.

Went by the stealership, and had two different techs say that our pressure is fine. Must just be a Ram thing. I'm going to get a mechanical gauge anyway, to get a better idea of what's going on.
