Default strange tranny question for "99" 1500

got a "99" 1500 with 5.2. Tranny has downshifted to early since new.Now it has 214k miles on it and just started working perfect.I can use the cruise in rolling hills with no kick down but it will kick down if I want to pass someone.I know this is not a problem but if it goes back to its old ways i would like to know how to fix it.

What matty675 said, with some elaboration: It might be that your throttle valve cable (from the throttle body to the transmission) was adjusted too tightly from the factory, but has stretched over the years so now it's much closer to correct. If this is the case, it's not going to ever go back to its old ways unless someone futzes with it -- so as long as it's working as it should, treat it like leavitrite. (Leave it right where it is.)

As the stretching continues it'll eventually reach the point at which it downshifts late. When that happens, dig out the manual and adjust the cable in accordance with the handy dandy written procedure.

There's no reason for that!

Would've been nice if they'd just spent a few minutes actually fixing the problem, eh? It's a three to five minute job. But it's good that your truck got tired of waiting and fixed itself.
