Default swapped 360

I swapped the 318 out of our 2000 dodge pickup with a 360 out of a 99 dodge /well no oil dipstick came with the 360, checked the haynes manual and the 360 calls for 5 quarts, changed the oil and filter/checked the oil with the dipstick from the 318 and it shows no oil well i added 1 quart (now the total is 6) and it shows half quart low what is up with this did the 360 take 6 quarts? is this the dipstick diff. from the 318?

Sounds like the dipstick is definitely different, unless there is a different pan on the 360 (Unlikely).

I'd get a new dipstick.

I have a '94 318 dipstick in my '94 360. I have held them side by side and they are identical. I also have a 318 oil pan on my 360 and have seen them side by side and they are identical. I also worked at a full service gas station and never saw a different style of dipstick and dodge trucks are very common up here.

I can't remember exactly but I do think I have to add more than 5 quarts to get the oil to the center of the operating area on the dipstick. It was like that with both motors though. How long did you wait after pouring the oil in to check the level?
