Question Need advice on air intake

Hey, I'm deciding whether or not to use a 14X3 intake on my truck or using a cold air intake. Is there a large difference between the two? Is there anything I can do to a 14X3 to maximize in performance.

Also how do i put this on all my threads?

Get a 14x3 with a paper filter or get a Volant. Your wallet will decide for you.

i got the mopar performance 12.75 round filter. the cold air intake to be is not taking ing cold air. the air is warmed by the time it reaches the intake and i like the old school look! it was 70 bucks verses several hundred for the CAI

I got the Spectre cold air intake from Amazon.com for 95.79 including free shipping!

I love it so far. Seems like the truck wants to get up and go a bit smoother. Could just be a butt dyno. Both Spectre and K&N say 12hp max gain.

The reason Purpl mentioned the Volant is the fact that it is an enclosed filter, therefore keeping it at least somewhat protected from the hot engine bay air (and pulling it from an external, cooler source outside the engine bay).

Not that the K&N or Spectre are bad products, but they (and similar designs) don't in any way enclose the filter (heat shields don't really provide any real protection in this case, you need an enclosure to do any good). This makes them as useful as a 14x3 (or equivalent) filter setup.

Do you guys think that you get better performance with the 14x3 rather than the stock setup? I had a 14x3 on my old ram and after going from the stock setup to that it seem a bit dogish. Maybe just my imagination?

i went from stock w/paper to stock w/k&n drop in to 14x3 w/paper filter and then back to stock with k&n drop in. 14x3 made my truck feel very sluggish throughout the rpm and speed range. it feels much better with the stock w/k&n drop in.

Open up your exhaust. If you don't, stock is good enough.

so my plan is to get the 14x3 setup and basically run 2 ram air induction to it.. from the 2 openings next to the radiator? think it will work and give it cold air???
