I've always wondered if there are lots of plenum blowout threads over on the Jeep forums for the Cherokee guys who have the 5.2 (93-98) or the 5.9 (98). Anyone frequent any of those sites and see posts about it?

Oh yeah...ALL the same issues, just a different brand. Plenums, cracked heads, stalling/starting issues.....on and on.

Had to do a quick motor swap before plow season last fall. Found a 5.2 with 60k out of a wrecked Jeep GC.

Plenum was blown big time....worse than my original motor that had over 145k. Feeding it oil until the snow is gone, then will fix 'er up. Runs great otherwise for a JY motor.

SS.....DD

I've visited a few Jeep forums when the wife had her Jeep GC, and even though I mostly saw the 4.7L V8 and 4.0L I6 because ours was a 2004, I did sneak peaks at a few threads for the older models with the Magnum V8s. Same engine problems.

Ya i'm not doubting that their 5.2's and 5.9's exhibit the same issues that ours do since they are identical. I'm more curious if they discuss it the same as we do here, and if they have ideas about it that we don't have here. Wonder if they are modding their keggers over there.

I frequent the ZJ section (93-98 Grand Cherokee) on Jeep Forum. Yes, the plenum gasket is a commonly discussed issue. Most of the guys aren't nearly as well in tune with the repair as the guys here though (most Jeep owners aren't very bright).

I'm in the process of replacing the timing chain, plenum plate and gasket on my buddy's 93 ZJ with the 5.2. The gasket wasn't visibly blown but there was a LOT of oil in the intake from the plate being warped.
