Default dry heaving

As I shift gears (manual tranny) rev rpm's everything sounds great under the hood but when I let off the accelerator, I hear this very congested, dry heave sound under the hood. It almost sounds like the intake is sucking some air in it other than through the filter? Is it common that that the air filters don't seat well? Is this a common sound that others have heard? 95 ram 2500.

Is the intake clamped on properly? Do you have a large vacuum leak somewhere?

Off topic but out of curiosity do you have a solid aluminum transmission or an aluminum bellhousing with a cast iron case and granny gear? I would like to know what tranny went behind the 5.9L in the 2500 light duty.

that's correct. it's an NV4500 tranny.
If I had a large vac leak wouldn't I get some funny idle or run conditions? It runs like a top! No idle issue or acceleration issue at all. I do have to gear down on to 4th on steep grades but that I think is due to 4.10 gears in this baby. She really cranks in low gear! I think the intake might not be clamped on properly.I'm gonna check it out. My gas mileage is around 10mpg in the winter using 4x4 and town driving and hauling wood. Don't know if gas mileage has anything to do with a vacuum leak.

Ok thanks. I was just curious on wether the LD 2500s got the NV4500 or NV3500. There is a guy on pavement sucks with a 95 1500 5.9L that has a factory NV3500 behind it (it was a special order) I wondered if dodge did something strange with the 2500 LD.
