got a question about 1999 2500 cummins
first my transmission seems to just stop pulling and then i have to put it in neutral and then back in gear for it to work again, this doesn't happen all the time.
next the computer says its getting 22mpg but when i fell up it is only getting 15-16 mpg
I bought this truck because all the guys saying they are getting 25-28 mpg with these trucks. what am i doing wrong?
one more thing is my fan belt was making a noise and i used a whole can of belt dressing on it and the noise stopped but soon after the truck started to make a pinging noise and i cant seem to pin point it down, any suggestions. thanks

Trannys are notoriously troublesome behind our torqque monster cummins' if you don't have the shift kit in there, that is worth lookin into. If it lags predominately when its cold, then you may want to dop the pan and do a fluid and filter change. May smooth things out some.
As for mileage, with no mods 25-28 is generous. I average 24.5, with a highway record of 27. With it being that low, I would chek you air filter for sure, oil change may not hurt either. But I would expect something a bit more sinister with mileage that low.
As for the pinging noise.. tough one. I know my tensioner pulley makes a strange noise every once in a while.

well i just replace the 5quarts of fluild and filter in the tranny and i also put a K&N air filter in (not the cold air intake system) I had a buddy that had a 97 and the dodge place told him to take it to the car wash and wash the motor (cow) down and he did and it would work good for about a month or two then do it again.
I was just wondering if a after market programable would help out on MPG
back to the tranny... when i did change it there wasn't much in the pan around the magnit maybe finger nail cover, if you know what i mean
