Default transmission slip on reverse

1998 1500 4x4 with origional tranny 180,000 miles
About a month ago It stopped going into Park gear selector felt like it hits a wall and wont go higher than "R". Today I pulled a 6x12 U-Haul trailer and when trying to back up a hill it started slipping. I put in 4 low to get it up the hill. Don't feel any slip in forward gears. Fluid does not seem to have a burnt smell and looks fairly good but I am color blind. Could the slip and not going into Park related?

Try adjusting the gear selector at the transmission.
Service manual will tell you how to do it.
