I need to breathe!
I have a 97 Ram 2500 ext. cab short box 4x4 with 5.9L gas engine, stock.
I suspect my cat is plugged (lacking power, poor gas mileage) and my muffler is just about rusted through so I think now is a good time to upgrade the exhaust system.
I tow a hefty travel trailer and a car trailer so I need to keep that in mind, I also want it to rumble like the beast it is. I've looked at a few threads on here about exhaust recommendations, but I need more details. The concensus seems to be to go with a single 3 inch or dual 2 1/4 inch. I was going to go with a Magnaflow high flow cat and install a custom cat back exhaust however the replacement cat has the same as my stock cat's dual 2 inch input and single 2 1/2 inch output. Will this be a large enough oulet? I've also seen setups with no mufflers in the system that sound pretty good from outside the vehicle but I wonder about the drone you might here from inside the cab. Please let me know what has worked for you and what you recommend, thanks.

that should be fine. I recomend the magnaflow cat and I would get a flowmaster. that way you can still use all of the existing pipe. as for the 3 in pipe. I would keep it 2 1/2" and leave it single out. that should get you a good amount of low end torque for towing. any bigger pipe, you will start to lose it. let me know what kind of prices you get for the muffler and cat. I have a friend that works at this place that sells them cheap.
Best deal so far as I can tell on e-bag for $84.77, I will pay a good chunk of coin to have it shipped to Canada though.

This is supposed to be a high flow factory replacement with a 2 1/4 outlet, maybe that's what I have stock?, do you think this is O.K?
I've seen trucks with a reverse y-pipe after the stock converter and straight out the back with no mufflers,(cheap method). I liked this sound on these trucks when they pass me on the highway but I never rode in a truck with this set-up to know what it would sound like from the inside, any comments?
