Default how hard is the 5.9 drop in??

A friends G/f wrecked his Dakota, and he had the 5.9 with the 46re. I can buy the whole truck for $300. I just rebuilt my 318 so I should be able to sell it. I'm thinking of buying the truck stripping it and building up a spare 46re and have the 5.9.

Hell I may keep it and put it in something else, but $300 seem like a good price for what I know is a strong motor. I would rebuild it from top to bottom first, and maybe even bore and stroke it.

I just know that his PCM and all would be no good for my truck.

I know people on here have dropped in 5.9s.
Really my biggest problem is I have three cars on the road, and two I'm working on, my truck has sat stored for over a year, the last thing I need is another project, but it seems like a good deal...

It's pretty much as easy as dropping your 318 back in after you rebuilt it, especially if you use the trans it came with because the motor would be properly balanced. Just get a PCM out of the same truck as yours but with the 5.9 and all else is butter.

sounds good, I know the MPG isn't as good, but my 5.2 gets ****ty mileage anyway the power added would make up for it.
Plus selling my rebuilt 318 would help offset the price.
I think most of my mods would fit on the 5.9 as well.
