Question I'm lookin' at a 95 Ram 1500 4x4 that doesn't run...

I haven't looked it over yet. But the owner states that the truck has been sitting all winter. And that it won't start it just cranks. It's a 360 he also said that the spark plugs are "black".

Any ideas of what it could be?

Thanx

From this page: http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/t.../diagnosis.htm

Can be caused by many different conditions. Carbon deposits build up when the plug fails to fire correctly and burn them off. Air/fuel mixture too rich, choke stuck on, electrical problem, extended periods of low speed driving, plug heat range too cold. All should be investigated.

These motors are known for a plenum leak that causes a lot of those symptoms. Running rich, burning oil, etc. I am not sure if that would cause the plugs to go black though. Only time I've ever seen that is when I had a bad O2 sensor on one of my other vehicles and the thing was running pig rich. It still started though ... maybe they plugs are just so bad that it wont start? If the truck is in good shape maybe it's worth taking a set of 8 plugs out there and putting them in and seeing if it fires?

$1100 is a bit too much for something that doesn't start, too many unknowns.
