Default 2000 ram 1500 grinding coming for rear wheel

The rear wheel on the driverside has play in it and it make a grinding noise at low speeds and when reversing. Do you think this is the axle bearing or are there rear wheel bearings and if so do they need to be pressed in. Also the truck feels like it is trying to jump timing( sputters and backfires) for a second or two when it has been drove and then let set for 30min or so and it does it when it reaches around 20 mph. What could cause this. And lastly there is a loud hissing sound (sounds like the motor is sucking way to much air like when you leave the air filter off of and old motor) coming from the motor when I start it in the morning. It stops after it is run for a little while but one time it cause the gas to stick. I know this is alot but I would appreciate any advise I could be given on any of these problems. Thank you for your time.

The bearing is not pressed on, the procedure can be found here, https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-gen-rams.html

The hissing noise is the IAC valve. Could be as simple as the gasket between the intake hat and throttle body is broken or missing, or the hat itself is broken or not installed correctly.

The other issue could be a lot of things. When was the last time it had a tune up for instance?

You should also do a search here for "plenum". It can cause all kinds of probs.

Zman17,

Thanks for guiding me to the shop manual!
Doing my 1999, 9-1/4" rear axle bearings soon, as there is a grinding noise coming from the rear end at low speed (with the wheels turned sharply) and play on the axle.
New Mopar parts are in hand (bearings, seals, Black RTV, and new gear lube), but I'll need to get the tools together first.
Never changed axle bearings, so I am wondering if there is going to be galling or other damage on the bearing-mating surfaces.
I am surprised there are no inner races pressed onto the axles......at least from what I see so far.

Are there any suggestions or common mistakes made when doing this job?
I read on another thread that if an aftermarket seal wasn't used on the rear differential cover, and blue RTV wasn't used, after installation, it WILL leak.
Mopar (and even Autozone) doesn't offer a seal for the rear differential.
I'm planning on keeping it as flat as possible, to avoid tweeking it.
Anyone else have leaking issues without a seal?
Or with using Permatex Maximum Oil Resistant, Black RTV on the differential cover?
Thanks for any/all suggestions.

Sincerely,
Dean
