You sure you're not hearing the fuel pump at key on, not the PCM?

No it's definately coming from the PCM on the passangerside firewall. I had the hood open, and I could hear it from under the truck. I put my ear right on it and thats where its coming from. Thats one of the reasons I wanted to verify that all the neccessary signals are at least getting to the transmission.

Next time you have an excuse to drop the pan, install a drain plug in it. With that and some squeaky clean containers to catch the relatively new ATF you'll only have to buy one quart for topping up rather than five or more next time around.

Default Update #2

Ok, I believe I have successfully proven the TCC solenoid to be defective. To do this I:

(1) - Found battery voltage betweens the TCC pins at the transmission (with key in RUN) (proving the +12v and ground path to the PCM are good)

(2) - Removed connector from PCM and checked for resistance between cavity 54 (orange/black stripe wire) and fuse 3 (load side) in the PDC under the hood. I recieved an infinite resistance reading, and since the circuit checked good in step #1, I will be replacing the TCC/OD solinoid combo.

Is there a certain brand or perhaps a revised version of the solinoid I should get?

I'll be adding a drain plug to the pan, changing filter and fluid, adjusting cable/linkage, adding a shift kit (budget permitting) and replacing all accessable gaskets while i'm in there.

I have checked for the "check valve of doom" in the transmission cooler lines, and this truck doesn't appear to have one. I don't like how close the exhaust is to the pan and cooler lines, so I plan to add heat wrap to certain areas to try and keep transmission temps down.

I'm gonna suggest adding a B&M transmission cooler (with fan) for added protection, but I doubt the old man will go for it.

Any comments, suggestions, or otherwise?
