Definitley go ahead and change the Plenum. Sooner or later it will tear.

 

Just called the salvage yard..they said they had one out of a 1998,will sell it to me and put it in for $1,100....sound like a good deal?

 

One what -- an engine? Hell, for that price and a bit more you could rebuild your own rather than buying an unknown that could crap out on you in either 10 miles or 5 years.

 

Replacing the gasket will just fix it for a few thousand more miles, then it may blow the gasket again. The problem is the steel on aluminum, and the length of the factory bolts (a hair to long). The solution is a new aluminum plate, from Hughes or equivalent.

 

That's just for the plenum, they are using all part's from the dealer. LOL

 

WOW...... Did they offer you any vaseline with that deal? Dinner and a movie at least?

You dont need to replace the whole manifold anyway, just the plate on the bottom and the gasket. Go to hughesengines.com and look for the aluminum plenum plate kit.

If you successfully took that manifold off, you are completely capable of doing this yourself. DONT reuse the factory bolts, they are torqued-to-yield. Hughes kit comes with new bolts I believe.

Or make it yourself. The bolts are the cheapest at the dealer.

 

He has to be talking about a whole motor.
