Default What shocks do I need?

1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 3in body lift and 4in suspension lift.

I bought this truck the way it is so I do not know what lift kit is in it. The shocks in the front are about shot.

So do I buy shocks for a 4in suspension lift or do I buy shocks for the total lift 7in lift?

Any suggestions on shocks?

I have looked up Rancho, Skyjacker, few others and went to a couple different automotive stores and have yet to find the ones I need.

I would look and try to pull numbers off the front ones but they are painted black.

I maybe able to pull numbers off the back ones.

Thanks for any info.

all you need is the 4", the body is seperate. pretty much and rancho or creditable shock will do now days as far as shock travel goes.

I thought so but I could not get a definitive answer.

There are heavy stone looking things (spacer?), how do the shocks mount or go through those?

Sorry never had a truck lifted this high.

I can take pictures if that would help.

I am trying to get it ready for some wheeling.

The drivers side shock is worst then the passenger, it seems to move up and down and click. We replaced the bottom shock bolt which helped for a while.

I made it a lot worse this winter when I put the stockers back on for the winter.

Pictures would definitely help.

I will move this to the tech section...

Default Dodge Ram Shocks

I ended up going with 5in lift Skyjackers for about $50 a piece.

They ordered the wrong ones initially and they ended up being about 4 inches to short. Got to rid around just on the springs for a day.

They ride a bit different then my SSV shocks but I should probably put shocks on the back now.

The spacers on the front are aluminum, the top bolts screw into them, which must have came with the original lift.

Thanks for your help.
