the brake gets hot but you also heard a grinding noise? it cant be the backlash of ur gears could it? and if it was, it wouldnt make ur brake hot. make ur axle is bent a little? could try swappin the axles to the other side and see if the problem follows it. just a thought.

sounds like it is the pinion bearing....may have looked ok, but looks can be deceiving.

Yeap sure bet would be the pinion bearings. Have you got under the truck while it was in neutral and yanked on the drive shaft. Check for any play in the pinion yoke and U-joints, any play in either one will mean problems. If the yoke moves bam theres your problem you get to re-dissemble the rear axle and do the pinions bearings. If you did take the pinion out bib you make sure to replace the crush space and tighten it up it takes like 210 fp just to start getting it to crush and you have to keep tightening it in increments tell you get the right preload. Setting the preload is a one shot deal if you don't get it right the first time you have to replace the crush and try it again once crushed it cant be loosened, though it can be crushed more or tightened farther.
