Default RE: ABS and Brake light????

Well, I did it!!!! Yahoooo!! I replaced the speed sensor and bingo the ABS and BRAKE lites went out. I had to disconnect the battery to get the CHECK ENGINE LITE to go out. You disconnect the negative terminal. Ya, 40 bucks is what it cost me for the sensor. The garage would have charged me 100 or so to fix. I just talk to a friend and he says he is going to be spending 700 to 800 bucks on getting a fuel pump replaced on his Chevy van......4 wheel drive 4.3 litre. Does that sound right???? Anyone??

awesome. easy fix huh?

700 to 800 sounds way too high... i'd expect no more than 400~450 max.

OK, my check engine lite is now off. The ABS & BRAKE lites are off when I first start the truck, but now they come on again after a few miles - and stay on until the next time I shut the truck off. Suggestions anyone?

I'm with steve, 400-450 sounds more like it, for a fuel pump. Had a chevy p/u in a past life that cost me 400 for the fuel pump replacement.

I have had two diffrent sensors go out on my drive train, the last one being the infamous rear ABS sensor, when that one went out my ABS and BRAKE on the dash lit up, after that my Speedo quit working below 20mph, easy fix, however I did not get a check engine light with my ABS Sensor problem. I did however get a Check Engine light when the VSS Sensor on the tranny went south, that is about 35.00, once I replaced that sensor, my check engine light went off for good. Be sure you take your old sensor with you as there are two diffrent VSS sensor styles. Hope this helps.

I have had the same problem with the ABS and brake light staying on in my 1998 2500 4X4. I read your post last night and went out today and bought the rear sensor. It installed fairly easily and solved the problem! It cost me $51 from the dealer. Thank you!
