need new front axle
Typical "simple-project-turns-into-total-disaster"
Front u-joints need replacing badly...the needle bearings are ground down to sand-size bits, not a drop of grease in the cups. Remove and replace. What could possibly go wrong.
Turns out the previous owner somehow bent or crushed the yoke when pressing out the u-joints XX number of years ago. The area the cups are pressed in to are not paralell. When the new ujoint is pressed in, (with only 1 cup so far) the other end is not centered where the other cup would press into. (If that makes any sense.)
The other axle is the same way.
Who sells new axles? I do not have front-ABS. All I can find are axles with the tone ring. No luck with Napa/Advance/Oreillys/Autozone/Pepboys
I also need to replace the axles seals, but at this rate (truck has been on jackstands for 2 weeks) its not going to happen. I'm probably going to bite the bullet and in the event I ever get the axles, its going to a shop for the rest of the work.

Most if not all will come with the tone ring. The ring does not interfere with anything of non-abs trucks so you can use the tone ring axle shafts without a problem. I have a tone ring on one of the stub shafts on my non abs '94 dodge so I am 100% sure it is not a problem.
Get your shafts through machine service. They are a supplier for Spicer so they are quality parts. I got my stub shaft from them. You will have to call them.
