I found mine fit perfect under the ash tray just left of the cup holders. I can still open the ash tray with no interference.

I like the spot under the ash tray, coin tray in my case. Did you make your own bracket to mount it or did you buy something?

I just used the bracket that came with the radio, it wouldn't be too difficult to make one though if you didn't get one with your CB
