Default Lighting (and a question for Zeekxxx)

Ok right now I have the stock Silvania bulbs in my truck. They have a yellowish look to them more than a lot of stock bulbs seem to have I think it is how the housing is. Well normally I like the blue look but on this truck I kind of like the yellowish look. I like how it doesn't reflect any blue in the headlight housings like the blue bulbs do also. I like how they look when looking at the truck but I am not crazy about them shining yellow on the road I like how the road looks white. I was just wondering if you guys had upgraded bulbs and if you liked them better or the stock ones. I have aftermarket bulbs in my daily driver but just can't decide if I want them in this or not. Anyones that shine white like the pics of Zeekxxx's but don't reflect blue in the housings when off? If I do go aftermarket and have blue in there anyway I think I want some blue bulbs not white like the Silverstars I also don't want something like the Silverstars anyway as I have found the Farenheits to be about as good and cheaper. Have any of you guys used 80/100Watt bulbs? Are these housings strong enough to use them or will it melt them? What about the wiring is it strong enough or will I also have to change that like on a lot of cars? Even if I change that would I have to worry about the housings?

Ok for Zeekxxx what bulbs are you using? Are they higher wattage or stock wattage? I saw you said Street Glow but which Street Glow ones? Do you have any pictures of them lit up looking at them not what they look like on the road? Are they really blue when looking at them or just white?

HMMM

My bulbs cast an erie blueish glow on the road that not only look awesome but toss out some major light. I had the same problem and they were kinda yellow. These bulbs changed everything. Im sure you can find some that toss out a blue glow with out looking blue in the reflector. That would depend on the type of gas in the blub I guess. Anyhow I did have some 100/90s in my ranger and the reflector will take the heat. Now I never left them on for hours without moving. In my dodge I have left the lights on for along time on purpose to see if the reflectors can take it and they DO! Keep in mind they might anger fellow drivers. But they will see u.

Heres the article I used to order. Just check your blub on your truck now before ordering. I can take some pictures tomorrow night if you want...

Good luck....

Oh yeah this was jcwhitney.com by the way

And for my last oh yeah I wanted to say..... They are only 26 bucks just order them and try them.... lol

Blue light is a lot worse in rain or foggy conditions - it gets absorbed way more than yellow light. You also need to watch your wiring harness if you run high wattage bulbs - those can easily melt the OEM wires. I've seen it happen and I've done it myself. My bulb of choice for my old car was the Hella 80/100, just a regular bulb with high output. About $13/bulb last I checked. High watt bulbs run a lot hotter so they burn out faster - it's a lot easier to replace a $13 Hella than a $65 PIAA.

Where did you get your Hella's? I'm considering the Street Glows although I don't want to melt my wiring should I upgrade it or will stock be ok? If not those then I'm considering the high wattage Eurolite Xenon Crystals, or stock wattage Eurolite Fusions I have used stock wattage fusions and crystals in other cars and they look white with a little blue and shine on the road the color I want. Or I still may just stay stock I can't decide. I don't want to melt my wiring and don't really want to have to upgrade it but if I get new bulbs think I want higher wattage ones but not sure.

I got them at a local 4x4 shop usually, and once at a ricer stereo shop. Those were H4 bulbs though, I don't even know what kind of bulbs the Dakota uses yet. I haven't looked.

It's funny because I used to run those in high school in my parents 89 grand caravan, and their 91 legacy wagon, and in my 98 impreza sedan, none of those had a melting problem, but then in my 01 impreza sedan I put an upgraded wiring harness in and the plugs melted slightly. Go figure. Note: Those were APC wiring harnesses. Moral of the story is that APC = ricer crap. I only got it because I had in-store credit and the store had nothing I wanted.

All good points but no matter what bulb you choose start up your truck and let in run. Then run your hand around the wires where the headlights are. I have no problems with over heating wires but I suppose each model year may differ so test it out before you declare victory.

Good luck

I can't decide if I really want to try high wattage bulbs on stock wiring or not. I also can't decide if I want to try Street Glow bulbs or get Eurolite again. I can get the Eurolites for $9 a set versus the Street Glows for $20.

Then here is what Id do.

Buy them both and put one of each in each headlight

Then drive around at night and see which one you like better.

Return the ones you dont like.

I dont know what to tell you anymore....
