Default tranny "hums" in reverse

I recently just got my truck out after sitting for several months and noticed when in reverse moving or not the tranny hums. It doesn't matter if its moving or not kinda sounds like when you have a bad electric fan. Any ideas out there fluid everything looks good. 95 2500 5.9 gas auto trans

Mine has always had a very slight hum or groan in reverse. I had a 1995 Dakota with the 46RH that did it, and my current 2001 Ram 1500 with the 46RE that does it. Even my father's 1994 Dakota does it.

Unless it gives you problems, I wouldn't worry about it. If you have the time, you could attempt to adjust the transmission's rear band. For how to do that, consult a Haynes manual while you do it, or use the tech manual which is in the 2nd Gen FAQ.

Dodge Ram.org has a couple of TSBs on this but since you have a '95 you might read this one first. It applies to 96 up but is also a revision.

2000 rams might look into this.

Mine has done this for the last 80,000 miles or so. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
