this is my front bumper

.

build out of 2 1/2in od 1/4in black iron

the upper cross bar is 2in od. i have since added a V from the lower bumper bar back to the forward frame cross brace. its the same 2in od bar is the cross bar. i plan to use it for a winch mount. going to install a 1/2 or 1in plat thats going to be mounting to the V via weld and im going to solid bolt the plat to the V for extra support

i used 1/4 in peice of flat stock and also a piece L angle that i welded together so that way i did have a weak point i didnt want to build a battering ram. just incase something does happen i dont wanna kill anyone.

Make sure to make it double as a good step for working in the engine compartment.

Keep in mind a bumper is supposed to absorb the impact and take the damage, not take the impact and transfer the damage to the frame. A tough bumper is fine, just don't make it so tough that it twists the frame and you're out a truck rather than a bumper.

My two cents.

i much agree with this. i have only spent about 100 on my bumper and i have spent probably 10g keeping the truck going so i would rather lose 100 then the whole truck.
