Unhappy 46RE Transmission - Feeling a little bummed

Well, after 15.5 years and 217,000 miles, my 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 transmission broke a snap ring. My transmission shop recommended a re-build and I agreed. Did I make the right decision? I know I'll appreciate it more once I have the truck back.

The only symptom I had was that I would feel a vibration at about 40 mph, during torque lockup. It just didn't feel right since it was always very smooth.

Man, I always said them 46REs were the biggest POSs around, LOL...

Na, you done good getting 217k out of it. Let a good, reputable shop rebuild it and it'll be good to go...

yea your tranny lasted MUCH longer then most....ive heard many stories of the trannies going before 100K....

and a full rebuild is a good idea....

My tranny went at 176K...and it was beefed up and built for towing (previous owner showed me recipts, i bought it at 187K)....ive taken on water, overheated it numerous time (all from off-roading) and after a couple flushes, she still goes like its good as new...got 208K now and running strong

Smile Got it back!

Just got it back. If feels very robust. I didn't get anything fancy, just a rebuild with a torque converter. I hope this lasts 100k.

It's not just our trans that suck. A chick I know has an 05 or so chevy 1500. The trans just went with not quite 90k on it.
