Overdrive problems

I'm needing some help here i have a 97 ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.2l. On a cold start i have a trans temp light and overdrive light is on it shifts fine but no overdrive. this does not happen everytime if the lights stay off everything works as it should. any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
