Default I need help with CCD error on overhead display

I have a 2001 that had been butchered by the previous owner. The wiring system has so many cuts, splices and dead ends(no kidding, there was an 8-gauge cable with a bare end left connected to the battery, jammed behind the ABS controller!!!).... Anyway, I have been re-splicing, and trying to heal some of the damage. One of the things attempted was the Overhead Console upgrade. I overtook the project and got it working.... Somewhat. When I first turn the key on, it does the little segment test, the a second or two later I get the "CCD" message. I have tried running jumpers from other pur/blk and wht/blk pairs, to no avail. My only real clue is on my other truck, which has a functioning overhead console computer, when I unplug the ambient temperature sensor, I get a reading of -40 degrees, but on this one I get a reading of 248 degrees until I get the CCD message, which leads me to believe there is a short in the temp sensor circuit. But I can't seem to find those nifty little wire harness to sheet metal anchors, and the harness is difficult to get to for error checking. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Was the console added after or was it factory?

No; this is of my doing. The previous owner had attempted it, and had the computer, but assumed the plugs were the same and thus, at purchase, I had no map lights. I bought the harness from a junkyard, spliced it together, and installed it as I replaced the cracked dash. Now, I have my map lights, and power to the computer, and when I do the little test of holing down both buttons it passes, yet after about three seconds of turning on the ignition, the unit displays "CCD". The only real reading I can retrieve before the error is that I have around 71 miles to empty on a full tank (My Lord, I hope not!!) and an outside temp of 248 degrees...

Do you mean the purple/black and white/black twisted pair? I wired them straight, color to color....

Do you know where the ambient temperature sensor module/driver is? I could check for a short much easier if I knew where the send went. I have a solid 5 volts to the sensor, and a slight continuity from the send to the ground.... Plus, I failed to mention earlier that the truck has the highline body controller... Thanks!

did you get the temp. sensor that lurks in front of the grille, under the hood?

+1 on the 2001 it will literally go up in the air over your head when you lift the hood. Turn around and look up.

Yeah, I swiped that from a local junkyard. The funny thing is that on my 99, if I unplug the temp sensor and turn on the key, the reading is -40 degrees. On my 2001, if I do the same thing, the reading is 248 degrees, sensor plugged in or not.

I have spare computers lying around, and I tried them with the same result. I plugged in the one from my 1999 as well, to no avail....
